Over the next two days, we are going to be looking at the section of Ephesians that talks about the covenant of marriage. In it we will find God’s order for the Christian home and His divine description of the role of the wife and husband within this sacred union. Unfortunately, the order and pattern of marriage relationships that we are reading about today and tomorrow are being slowly redefined and shunned by today’s liberal society.

We are not more than a few pages into the Bible before we read about the account of Adam and Eve. They are real people who are mentioned by name by Jesus Himself. The fact that they were brought together by God into this covenant of marriage is confirmed by the last few of our Scriptures here in Ephesians 5:21-33.

Beloved, culture has certainly changed since the Garden of Eden; but God’s order and divine roles for a wife and husband do not change. Spiritually speaking, in Christ, a man and a woman are equal. There is no superior gender in Christ. But in the divine order in the covenant of marriage, the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the Head of the church. The wife is called to submit to her husband, and the husband is called to die for and nourish his wife. All of this is done in the power and strength of The Holy Spirit. While life itself and the challenges of any marriage can be complicated and difficult, when the God roles within the marriage are honored and obeyed, God’s peace and power are present.

The liberal media wants us to believe that the bible order for marriage is all about male dominion over women. This is not about a gender or power struggle, this is all about honoring God’s order by faith. What is really going on is that fallen society has taken up its arms and is at war with God and His divine order as is given unto us in Scripture. Whether husband or wife, when it comes to your role in your marriage, whom do you listen to, society or Scripture?
