“In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace; … In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, who is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of His glory.” (Ephesians 1:7,13-14) If we were to put these verses into laymen’s terminology, we would simply say that salvation is a “no doubt about it” message!

The basis of this “no doubt about it” way of thinking is based upon the eternal plan of The Father (1:3-6), the perfect sacrifice of His Son Jesus Christ (1:7), and, lastly, upon the sealing work of The Holy Spirit of promise (1:13-14). The Apostle John stated the purpose for writing the Gospel of John this way: “But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through His name.” (John 20:31) In other words, God wants us to know Who Jesus is, and to know that through faith in Him we have eternal life. To put it plainly, there is no doubt about it! By believing in Him, we have life.

After hearing the word of truth, the gospel of our salvation, we were sealed and given the divine assurance of The Holy Spirit. That is what The Lord’s Supper today is all about – assurance of salvation. And many of us humbly and gratefully rejoice in this knowledge! But, if you are unsure of Who Jesus is or where you stand with Him today, listen prayerfully and carefully to God’s Word; and if you, by the grace of God, put all of your faith and trust in Jesus Christ, you will be forgiven. There is no doubt about it!
