As we come to the end of the year, it is important that we decide what we are going to look at in the days ahead. Puritan author John Owen wrote a book called the mortification of sin. He said, “some aspects of your life are not befitting a Christian. There are things that are not befitting to your mouth, to your mind and to your mouth if Christ is in you”.
I think that we are all aware of the fact that our nation and the world around us is rapidly changing. We are being constantly impacted by fear mongering images in the realms of politics, wars, and new strains of diseases. Man is not the answer to any of these consequences of sin. My exhortation to you, my precious church family is a simple one. Look unto Jesus. In the midst of all the craziness and chaos of this world, this we can be sure of.
“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. Trust ye in the LORD forever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength” (Isaiah 26:3, 4). We lose our peace whenever our eyes are off of Jesus and fixed on something or someone else. Let’s keep our eyes on Jesus, beloved.
Looking to Him. Abiding in Him. Jesus said in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid”. Peace or panic stem from whatever we choose to look at and dwell on. Selah
