Isaiah 26:8 Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, have we waited for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee.

One sure sign of regeneration is a longing for God. A desire for God is the evidence of The Holy Spirit in a person’s life. The natural man possesses natural appetites for food and pleasure. The twice born soul has a supernatural appetite for fellowship with God and the enjoyment of His pleasures. The Hebrew word that is translated desire here actually means longings of one’s heart. It describes the object of one’s desire. Interestingly, this same word in a bad sense is used to describe another person whose object of desire is lust or covetousness.

Every human soul has longings for something. Every human soul has objects of desire. It is not a question of whether or not we have desires, it is a question of what those desires are. Reader, do you have longings for God? Do you love to spend time with Him, and find great pleasure in Him?

What thoughts and desires drive you? What cravings and affections are you drawn to? “My soul yearns for you in the night; in the morning my spirit longs for you.” (Isaiah 26:9)

May The Spirit of God grant to writer and reader alike that insatiable longing for fellowship and communion with the Lord throughout the day. Selah
