How concerned are you about your spiritual fitness? Have you ever considered that the perfect will of God for your life is that you be spiritually fit? As in an army, you and I are called to be good soldiers of Jesus Christ. To be a good soldier, each of us must be in good shape.

Like a long distance runner, you and I are called to run in order to win the prize. To win the race, I need to exercise properly and eat responsibly. Both of these illustrations from Scripture tie into the exhortation to “exercise yourself toward godliness.”

Godliness in Jesus just doesn’t happen, saints. To be fit for eternal life requires a well-balanced diet, and a fixed decision to live holy. We must pay careful attention to our Trainer’s program. To be fit for eternal life, it is essential that our spiritual senses be properly exercised to discern what is good and evil.

The popular saying, ‘No pain, no gain!’ is also true spiritually.

How is your spiritual fitness today? Are you ready to share what you believe and why you believe it with others? Are you spiritually sober and “steadfast in the faith”? Or does your life in Christ have the appearance of a spiritual ‘couch potato’?

Wake up, saints! Get back into God’s (not Gold’s) gym! The whole world and God are watching. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us”.
