The account of Israel and the Gibeonites teaches us that, as Christians, we should keep our commitments, even if we make an ill-advised promise that will make our lives difficult. The effectiveness of our testimony for the Lord depends a lot on our integrity. Despite the political pressure, Joshua honored the covenant with the Gibeonites, because they had sworn the oath in the LORD’s name.
