Psalm 130:7,8 Let Israel hope in the LORD: for with the LORD there is mercy, and with him is plenteous redemption. And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

One of the great mysteries of Scripture is that God became a man (1 Timothy 3:16) in order that He, by the grace of God, would taste death for every man (Hebrews 2:9). Jesus Christ IS The eternal God Who became man. Not only did Jesus become man, He became our glorious kinsman-redeemer.

The kinsman-redeemer had to be a family member. Only Jesus, the eternal God who added humanity to His eternal deity (Philippians 2:5-8), can be both the kinsman and the redeemer for mankind. The kinsman-redeemer had the duty of buying family members out of slavery. Jesus redeemed us from slavery to sin (Matthew 1:21) and death (Hebrews 2:14-15). The kinsman-redeemer had the duty of buying back land that had been forfeited. Jesus will redeem the earth that mankind “sold” over to Satan (Romans 8:20-21). Boaz, as kinsman-redeemer to Ruth, was not motivated by self-interest, but motivated by love for Ruth. Jesus’ motivation for redeeming us is His great love for us (Romans 8:38-39). Selah
