Isaiah 57:15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name [is] Holy; I dwell in the high and holy [place], with him also [that is] of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.

Here is a declaration of truth from the lips of the prophet Isaiah. It is a declaration of where The Holy, High and Lofty God dwells. He doesn’t dwell in ornate buildings. He dwells in those who possess a contrite and humble spirit. The Hebrew word that is translated contrite describes a person who has been crushed. The Hebrew word that is translated humble means to be of low estate or lowly. Does it even take a prophet of God to state the obvious fact that God does not dwell in the vast majority of those who inhabit this planet? Do not believe the religious pollsters. There will be many in the last days who have a form of godliness, but deny the power thereof. There are multitudes of modern day Pharisees like the one we read about in Luke 18:9-14. They can fluently quote “the fathers” and know church tradition, but their spiritual pride and arrogance proves that they are dead inside and void of the new birth.

Isaiah 66:1,2 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven [is] my throne, and the earth [is] my footstool: where [is] the house that ye build unto me? and where [is] the place of my rest? For all those [things] hath mine hand made, and all those [things] have been, saith the LORD: but to this [man] will I look, [even] to [him that is] poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

Psalm 34:18 The LORD [is] nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.

Psalm 138:6 Though the LORD [be] high, yet hath he respect unto the lowly: but the proud he knoweth afar off.
