The faith that is given to us as Christians is more than empty words. Israel had all of the religious routine (and then some) down pat, but it was lip service only. Jesus used the religious Pharisees as an example of how not to pray, fast or give unto the Lord! Through the psalmist God declared that there was a deeper purpose behind the prescribed sacrifices than cold ritual.
When ritual and heart faith converge, as in communion or baptism, it is a wonderful experience of worship. However, if we are not careful, we can begin to slip into “cruise control” in worship, serving and living. Apostolic saints “live on the edge”. Our faith in Jesus is a continuous act of devotion and thanksgiving. However, a faith that leaves a tongue unbridled or is void of works is dead. Faith in Jesus Christ is a resurrection into newness of life.
We are to be dead to sin and alive to God. His mission becomes our vision. With every breath, we praise His Holy Name. We resolve to yield every thought to His purposes. Toss away the fruitless alibis of disobedience for holy living. May the love, grace, and power of Jesus Christ shatter heartless, useless faith with explosive living faith.
