Mark 10.42-45
42 But Jesus called them [to him], and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.
43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:
44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.
45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.

Years ago, the famous professional boxer, Muhammed Ali used to say, ” I am the greatest!” He certainly was a great boxer. But I believe that a lot of his rhetoric was showmanship, par excellence. Yet in each and every image bearer of God is this desire for greatness. Our Example of true greatness is The Lord Jesus Christ. His greatness was not achieved by pushing people around or intimidation. His greatness was demonstrated by laying down His life as a servant and giving His life as a ransom for our sin.

So today, when that flesh aspires to be great. Follow the example of Jesus. Lay down your life for others. Deny that addiction to self centeredness. Be a servant for the glory of God. And do it such a way that others would say, God is The Greatest!
