The inspired writer to the Hebrews tells us that one of the foundational doctrines of the Christian faith is the resurrection of the body (Hebrews 6:1-3). Paul wrote to the Corinthians about this important doctrine of faith which was being questioned by some (1 Corinthians 15:12-19). We know that there was an aristocratic religious sect called the Sadducees who did not believe in the resurrection of the body (Acts 23:8a). There were also some very prevalent teachings of Greek philosophers that denied the resurrection of the body. No doubt, these were some of the individuals who influenced these babes in Christ to question such a teaching.
To counter those heretical teachings, the apostle Paul proclaims the doctrine of the glorious resurrection of The Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus Himself promised that those who believed in Him would be raised again on the last day (John 6:39,40,44). Because Jesus rose from the dead, we too shall be raised with new bodies. Because Jesus rose from the dead, all of our sins are forgiven. Because He is a Risen and Living Savior, our faith is a living faith, not a hopeless form of godliness. Because Jesus has risen, those who follow Him as Lord can walk in newness of life. We can look beyond the trials and tribulations that come our way in this life because we know that one day we will clothed with a new body and will be with Him in glory forever!!
