Hebrews 6.11,12 And we desire that every one of you do shew the same diligence to the full assurance of hope unto the end: That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises.

Faith in Jesus Christ gives unto us a full assurance of hope. That hope is rooted in Him and His once and for all perfect sacrifice. But this blessed hope is a hope that inspires us unto faith and good works. The saving hope of God, by grace through faith in Jesus Christ gives no place for passive living. The Holy Spirit had just told these saints that God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Our faith in Christ is meant to be expressed in good works and labors of love. This is the fruit of abiding in Christ. Thus, as we minister to others today, we are reminded that God does not forget the expressions of love that we extend to others for His Name’s sake. Others may forget those labors of love. You and I may grow weary in doing those works of love. But God doesn’t forget. Because we tend to get a bit lethargic in the things of The Lord, the writer to Hebrews stirs us up to action by reminding us of the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on Calvary for us. His sacrifice for us inspires us to be a living sacrifice for others and for his glory.

Through faith in Him and the promise of His Spirit, we are set free to live our lives in that reflect the beauty of Christ. That’s what hope does. It moves you to serve, not slumber.
