The celebration of Christmas is not the celebration of something, it is the celebration of Someone, and that Someone is Jesus Christ. Let’s just take a moment to ponder and wonder at what God did when He became a man.
Somehow, in a miraculous, marvelous, mysterious way, the eternal, infinite God squeezed Himself into the confines of the universe He created. The utterly perfect, limitless, incomprehensibly holy God clothed Himself in human flesh and form. The almighty Creator, who spoke and countless galaxies were formed, became a helpless, crying Baby! Now the birthing of a new human life is marvelous and miraculous in itself, but the Babe born to the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem that first Christmas was no ordinary human baby, but the eternal Son of God! The only way the angel Gabriel could explain this to Mary was to say: …“The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God.” (Luke 1:35)
God did not stop being 100% God in becoming a human being, nor is Jesus Christ anything less than 100% man. And God did not become a man just for 33 years to accomplish His mission of saving mankind from sin (Matthew 1:21), but Jesus Christ remains the God-Man for the remainder of time and all eternity. Again, Gabriel explains to Mary: “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name JESUS. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.” (Luke 1:31-33)
So saints, remember and celebrate the God-Man Jesus Christ, Who is “able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” (Hebrews 7:25)
