Luke 9:16,17 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
The miracle of the loaves and fishes is the only miracle recorded in all four gospels. In John’s gospel, this miracle is followed by the proclamation of Jesus that He is The Bread of Life (John 6:35). There are many spiritual truths that we find in this miracle. It is a manifestation of The Father’s Heart for sinners. Jesus, Who is the express image of God (Hebrews 1:1-3), was moved with compassion when He saw the multitudes because they were like sheep without a shepherd. Never doubt the love or compassion of God for you. Another lesson that we find in this miracle is that when problems or impossible situations arise in our lives, Jesus had the answer before the problem took place. We also see how The Lord uses the little that we give Him to do miraculous things. Andrew brought to Jesus what essentially amounted to a fish and chips lunch that Jesus multiplied to feed an estimated 20,000 people WITH leftovers!! Incredible.
Amazingly, many of the people who were recipients of the miracle were unaware of what took place. Many of them never came to saving faith in Jesus. They were only looking for the blessings from Jesus, but not interested in His Lordship. They were only concerned for the temporal and not the eternal. You see miracles in and of themselves do not always result in salvation. Thank God for His miracles, but miracles are given to point people to The Messiah, Jesus, The Bread of Life.
Reader, have you repented of your sin and trusted Jesus, the Bread of Life, as your Lord and Savior? If so, the greatest miracle in the universe takes place: “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
