There are only two paths in life that a person may be on. One is the path of life through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. This is the walk in the Spirit which benefits others and glorifies Jesus. The other is the walk after the flesh, which takes advantage of others, and is the path of self destruction (Matthew 7:13,14).
Our present world system is set up to “feed” the flesh. Our world system is Christless and corrupt. The Bible says that Satan is “the god of this world” (or “age” – 2 Corinthians 4:4), and Jesus said that the devil only steals, kills and destroys (John 10:10). The things of the flesh that we read about in Galatians 5:19-21 are the very things that the devil uses to devour lives, marriages, reputations, and even churches. There is only one place that this flesh belongs, and that is crucified (Galatians 5:24).
How we need to recognize the subtlety of our flesh in its efforts to be resurrected in our lives! We have the Biblical admonition to not make provision for the flesh and the lusts thereof (Romans 13:14). We find in Scripture a solemn warning that those whose lifestyle is identified by these works of the flesh shall not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21).
May the Holy Spirit of God give us ears to hear the truth about the consequences of living a life after the flesh, and, by the grace of God, turn to the Lord Jesus Christ for that filling of His Spirit to “walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).
