Song of Songs 1:3  Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.

In the gospel of Matthew we read the following verses about the name of Jesus. “‘And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.’ Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, ‘Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel,’ which being interpreted is, ‘God with us.’” (Matthew 1:21-23) “A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. And in his name shall the Gentiles trust.” (Matthew 12:20,21)

Think about The Name of Jesus this morning, beloved. A person’s name is indicative of the totality of who they are. Thus, when we speak about The Name of Jesus, we are embarking upon an unfathomable feast of unimaginable beauty and power that is almost impossible to translate into human language. The Name of Jesus. Soft and tender, yet mighty enough to cause demonic powers to flee. Emmanuel, God with us, not against us. His Name is like a soothing, healing ointment on an infected wound. His Name has healing power, for Jesus is Jehovah ROPHE. Oh ponder His sweet Name this morning. Breathe the fragrance of His presence in the depth of your soul. Apply the Name of Jesus to your deepest hurt, your greatest need, your easily besetting sin. Receive His medicinal touch made without hands. Let’s spend a few days thinking about His Name, which is as ointment poured forth. Selah
