Jesus is the visible image of the Invisible Father (John 1:18; 2 Corinthians 4:4; Philippians 2:6; Hebrews 1:3). According to Strong’s Concordance, the Greek word translated “image” is “eikon”, and it means: “a likeness, i.e. (literally) statue, profile, or (figuratively) representation, resemblance”. When the apostles asked Jesus to show them The Father, Jesus replied, “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known Me, Philip? He that hath seen Me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, ‘Shew us the Father’?” (John 14:9)
One of the foundational truths of Scripture is the deity of Jesus Christ. The KJV of 1 Timothy 3:16 reads, “And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh…” A mystery indeed is the fact that Jesus is fully human and yet fully God. “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” (Philippians 2:6-8)
Jesus is The Eternal Creator Who became flesh and dwelt amongst us (John 1:1-3,14). To fulfill God’s prophetic word, an angel of The Lord told Joseph to name the Child Yeshua, Emmanuel, which means God with us (Matthew 1:20-23). The prophet Isaiah declared that His Name would be called, among other things, “The Mighty God” (Isaiah 9:6). Such a truth is too lofty for the human mind to fully understand. But Scripture leaves us no doubt as to the character and identity of Jesus Christ, “For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9).
As we work our way through these glorious passages of Scripture, “Come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our Maker. For He is our God; and we are the people of His pasture, and the sheep of His hand.” (Psalm 95:6,7)
