Proverbs 12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.

Let me give you a couple of other ways that this passage can be understood.

  • Worry weighs a person down; an encouraging word cheers a person up.
  • Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.
  • Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.

Both writer and reader alike are no strangers to worry and anxiety. Our flesh are prone to worry and anxiety to circumstances just like our hands react when dangled over a fire. Neither worry or anxiety are of any value to us in either the physical or spiritual realm. They can only be cured by a good word.

That good word of course is God’s Word. Word of God’s character. Word of God’s power and love. Word of God’s promises that are yes and Amen in Christ Jesus. Beloved, be a receiver as well as distributor of God’s good Word today. It is a source of cheer and gladness in times of discouragement and gloom. Is your heart heavy this morning? Read the Psalms of the day in 30 day increments. For example, If today is the 12th, read Psalm 42,72,102 &132 as well. Your heart will be encouraged Your soul will be relieved. Your mind will be refreshed with a Godward perspective.

May The Word of God be the medicine that you take when your heart is overwhelmed. You will be glad you did. And Christ will be magnified when your faith in Him replaces the despair and gloom of your circumstances.
