Acts 2:16-21 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy: And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke: The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come: And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
The outpouring of The Holy Spirit on Pentecost was one of the last days events. Note that the last days includes events that lead up to and include the Day of The Lord, which is a time of great judgment. However, note that this time period is also the day of salvation, for “whosoever shall call upon the Name of The Lord shall be saved.”
2 Timothy 3:1-5 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves (fond of self, i.e. selfish), covetous (fond of silver, money), boasters (braggarts), proud (appearing above others, haughty), blasphemers (impious or irreverent), disobedient to parents, unthankful (thankless, i.e. ungrateful), unholy, Without natural affection (hard-hearted towards kindred; same sex physical relationships are not natural), trucebreakers, false accusers (diabolos – a slanderer, a devil), incontinent (without self-control), fierce (savage), despisers of those that are good (hostile to virtue), Traitors, heady (wordy – knowledge puffs up), high-minded (inflated with self-conceit), lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form (appearance or formula) of godliness, but denying (refusing) the power thereof: from such turn away.
Moral iniquity and religious imposters mark the last days upon the earth. The list of perilous times is headed by the fact that men would be lovers of their own selves. Self love is the root of all the other sins that follow. Do not miss the fact that the people that are engaged in these awful things will not be atheists. They will love pleasure more than they love God; they will have a form of godliness, but deny its power.
What is the power of godliness?
Romans 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
1Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
1Corinthians 1:24 But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.
Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
2 Peter 3:3-4 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers (false teacher or mocker), walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
Mockery about our Creator and His creation and the literal, physical return of Jesus to this earth will mark the last days.
1 John 2:18-19 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time.19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.
The prefix “anti” means both “opposed to” and “in place of”. The spirit of antichrist is indeed alive and well today. Note that John writes about how many antichrists came out from the visible church. Many cult leaders were at one time professed parts of the orthodox church.
By simply comparing the above Scriptures with Scripture, we indeed once again are reminded that we are in the last days and the “clock” of prophecy is winding down even as you read this. Are you saved, or do you have a form of godliness which is nothing more than a spiritual hobby? Selah
