Matthew 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
There is an old hymn that says, “How strong and sweet my Father’s care, that round about me like the air is with me always everywhere; He cares for me.” On this day when we honor fathers and fatherhood, let us look to The One from Whom all fatherhood flows (Ephesians 3:14-15), and that is our heavenly Father. Even the best earthly example of a father falls far short of what fatherhood is meant to be. All human fathers are flawed and are subject to fleshly weaknesses and frailties. But this is not the case with our heavenly Father. All of His attributes are perfect, always. His love is perfect, His grace is perfect, and His mercy is perfect. Hallowed be His Name!
Psalm 23 captures the caring heart of God for His children as no other Psalm does. Our Father in this Psalm is portrayed as our Shepherd. As a shepherd cares for his flock, God our Father cares for every one of His children. He not only sees a multitude of sheep, He sees you, beloved. As you ponder this Psalm, hear the tone of Abba’s voice as if He were speaking to you alone. Jesus said that if you have seen Him, you have seen The Father (John 14:9).
May the unchanging character of our Everlasting Father encourage you today. Selah
But now, O Lord, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our Potter; and we all are the work of thy hand. Isaiah 64:8
