Beloved, do you tend to rejoice more in your redemption than in your Redeemer? Contrary to common thinking, the main theme of Scripture is not the redemption of man, but The Redeemer of man. When speaking about what we call The Lord’s Supper, Jesus said, “… do this in remembrance of Me.” (Luke 22:19) In other words, when you take the bread, remember Jesus. As you drink the cup, remember Jesus. Do not only remember what He did for you, as important as that is. Remember Him!
When we look at Paul’s cause of rejoicing in Ephesians 1:3 we find that his rejoicing was more in His Redeemer than it was in His redemptive plan. Thank God for the forgiveness of sin and being rescued from the wrath of God and eternal suffering in hell. But Who did that for us?
May The Lord of glory, The Lord Jesus Christ, open our hearts and minds to see our glorious Savior for Who He truly is. After Asaph repented because he envied the prosperity and ease of those who did not know The Lord, he wrote the words, “Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee. My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.” (Psalm 73:24-26) Amen.
