Psalms 119:80 “Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.”

May this be a part of your prayers this morning, loved ones. Let my heart be sound in Thy statutes. The Hebrew word that is translated “sound” here is also translated, “without blemish, perfect, upright, without spot, uprightly, whole, sincerely, complete, full.” The Psalmist prays for a heart that is unmixed with things that are soiled or filthy or unhealthy.  His reason for such a heart is that a mixed heart, or double heart will be the cause of shame.

Although the Hebrew or Greek words may be translated differently, it is interesting to note how many references there are to the word sound in connection with the believers walk. Let me share a few with you, make a closing comment, and pray.

  •     Proverbs 14:30 A sound heart [is] the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
  •     2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
  •     2 Timothy 1:13 Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
  •      Titus 2:2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience.
  •      Titus 2:8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.

A sound heart, sound mind, sound faith, sound speech, sound words. Think about how this kind of soundness will impact your day today. Think of how it will impact others for Jesus. Father, grant to reader and writer alike this kind of soundness today as we go about our day. May Your Spirit quicken us to think, speak and act soundly, that we be not ashamed, but most importantly, in order that You would be glorified.
