It has been said that anybody can have children, but according to numerous passages of Scripture, the goal of Christians is to raise God-fearing children. Thus, parenting is not for wimps! Biblical parenting is done 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. It is a blessed and weighty responsibility that is to be done in all the seasons of your child’s life. While it is true that both parents and children as human beings are of equal value in God’s eyes, within the structure of the home, children are to live in subjection and submission to parental authority and guidelines.
Dad and mom, God has given you the primary responsibility to raise your children in Christ. If you and I are not diligent in telling our children the truth of God and the facts of life as they are recorded in sacred Scripture, then someone else is going to tell them a lie. There is no room for passivity in parenting. The very foundation of the nation of Israel’s family structure is found in Deuteronomy 6:1-2: ‘Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the Lord your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: that thou mightest fear the Lord thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.’
Whether your son or daughter has been made by God to be a doctor or an assembly line worker, the very core values of fearing God and giving Him glory in all that they do is the goal of Christian parenting. Our children need to learn that success according to God is not always spelled money or degree, but faithfulness to Christ and holiness.
