It is vitally important that we draw our image of God from Scripture alone. Neither a good nor a bad earthly father can be used as a comparison to our heavenly Father, for obvious reasons. The best dad (and praise the Lord for them!) has limitations, but our Father in heaven doesn’t. (However, Psalm 78:41 records that those God had called to be His own “limited the Holy One of Israel.” How? By unbelief.)
The One who spoke the universe into existence calls those who are born of His Spirit His children. The Scriptures emphasize the relationship that exists between the “twice-born” child of God and the God of the universe. In prayer we address “Our Father”. To us, His children, He is “Abba, Father”, which is an Aramaic term of endearment. Truly, unto us who believe, He is “precious”.
The Bible says that God is a God of patience and consolation. He is the God of hope, the everlasting Father. How mighty! How powerful! Indeed, our God is “clothed with majesty”.
A refresher course is worth repeating. God is faithful. He is the God of all comfort. The apostle John plainly states “God is love.” His “name is ointment poured forth”. “Jehovah, the Lord, is my strength and song”, who, in His rich mercy, gave His only begotten Son to redeem me from the law’s curse.
Christian, how wise our God is. Who can challenge His authority? My persuasion rests in His power to keep me until that final day.
May our Father with His gentle hands make you great today as you so shine in a way before men to bring Him the glory He so richly deserves.
