David’s enemies told him that there was no help for him in God when Absalom tried to usurp his throne. However, David knew that God was his shield and his glory. That is, David knew that, even if he could not feel it at the moment, he knew without a doubt that God’s presence was with him. Likewise, as Christians, we know that Jesus will never leave us nor forsake us, regardless of our circumstances.
