Acts 14:15 We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein.
How important it is for us to remember this one basic truth. There is only one perfect One, and there is the rest of us. That one perfect One is Jesus Christ. Only He is without sin. The rest of us in the body of Christ are redeemed sinners, who dwell in mortal bodies that are subject to common temptations and passions. After God performed a notable miracle of healing through the hands of Paul and Barnabas, the people wanted to make them gods. Thankfully, Paul and Barnabas set the record straight. We are not gods, we are men of passions just like everybody else.
Many of God’s people are as star struck with anointed instruments of God as teenagers are with their MTV idols. There are personality cults within the body of Christ that are equal to any that exist in the world. It is sin. It is idolatry. And it grieves the Spirit of God. Any instrument that God uses to bless the body of Christ is just that – an instrument. But the reason for the instrument’s existence is to tell people to turn from vain things and turn to The Living God Who made heaven and earth and all things therein. “…there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me.” (Isaiah 45:21) Selah.
