Today’s passage concerns the birth of the Church on the day of Pentecost. On the Feast of Firstfruits, a priest would wave a sheaf of grain before the Lord, but on Pentecost, he presented two leavened loaves of bread to Him. In the the Bible, leaven indicates the presence of sin. So, why two leavened loaves? Because the Church is made up of Jewish and Gentile sinners, who have been saved by grace, and the Church will not be perfect until it gets to heaven.
