I will sing unto the Lord, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. The Lord is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father’s God, and I will exalt him. These were the words spoken by the nation of Israel after Jehovah drowned the pursuing Egyptian army and chariots in the Red Sea. Deliverance and singing go hand in hand.

Note the three “I will’s” here. I will sing unto the Lord, I will prepare Him an habitation and lastly, I will exalt Him. The basis for saying this is because of Who God is and what He did for them. Who is God? The Lord, my strength and song, my salvation. What did He do for them? He overthrew the pursuing Egyptian army that was bent on destroying them.

Child of God, through the cross and resurrection of The Lord Jesus Christ, we have been granted an even more spectacular and marvelous deliverance and reason to sing today. Through Jesus’ sacrifice, our entire sin debt has been paid and we have been born again and delivered out of the powers of darkness. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, bless His Holy Name!

Paul exhorts the redeemed at Ephesus to be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Yes, these same saints like you and I need to dressed in the armor of God for battle, but a part of our armor is singing Spirit filled songs of praise.

The writer to the Hebrews tells these saints, many of whom were experiencing a time of intense trial and persecution By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name. Of course, the ultimate example of worship in light of Who Jesus is and what He’s done for us is found in Revelation 5, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing

Dearly beloved, you and I have much to be thankful for and sing about. Yes, life may be filled with its share of challenges and disappointments. But never forget that The Lord Himself is your strength and your song today. He has become your salvation. Sing away beloved, sing away!
