“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:8-10)

God is not the work of our hands; we are the work of His. What a precious thought and truth! We marvel at renaissance art, the skill and details of those gifted painters. We stand in awe of what modern man does in the fields of space
exploration and technology.

Made in God’s image, man does create things that boggle the mind. However, that wisdom and know-how is nothing compared to the works of our Creator’s hands. Do you realize that the prize of His creation was man? Why? Because God made man in His own image and likeness. However, in the garden that image was darkened when man fell.

Through Jesus Christ fallen man returns to that garden. We can’t work our way in; we don’t “pay off St. Peter”. We enter through the only door in God’s Kingdom, the Lord Jesus Christ. Upon doing that, by God’s grace through faith in Jesus, we become God’s workmanship.

As a child of God, you today are God’s work of art. Maybe you’re a “newborn sketch”. Perhaps you’re older but have dried out and are beginning to crack. Or perhaps you need some new color because you’re fading out. For those of you seasoned saints, Jesus is about to sign His masterpiece and call you home. No matter what your present status, God declares that those who believe in His Son Jesus are His works of art.

You may feel ugly, lonely, wounded, depressed, or good-for-nothing, but that is not how God sees you. The price He paid to redeem you was His precious Son’s life, in order to reserve you a place in His gallery.

As God brushes His hand of circumstances upon you today, remember this one thing – He loves you!
