Mark 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
The words of this devotional title are the words of our Lord Jesus Christ that were spoken in the context of prayer. Read them again. Now believe those words of Jesus over that need or crisis that you are presently dealing with today. Listen to Jesus once more. “Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.” (Mark 11:24) What a promise! With good intentions I am sure, we tend to come up with clever ways to limit those words or reduce them to what we think is safe or in the realm of probable. “What things soever.” The natural man utters that those words cannot possibly be literally true. Then what did Jesus mean?
Perhaps to emphasize that He did mean what He said, Jesus said this more than once. “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” (Mark 9:23) When asked by His disciples why they had been unable to cast out a demon, “Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.” (Matthew 17:20)
Beloved, our God is an awesome God Who possesses awesome power and He “is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think” (Ephesians 3:20). Yes, there are secret things that belong within the realm of God’s unknown and sovereign purposes, but the things that are revealed are meant for us to grasp and lay hold of (Deuteronomy 29:29). As we continue our theme of prayer this week, remember the words of the Psalmist, “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1) Selah
