Proverbs 12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
Anxiety levels are at an all time high in our nation. We are anxious about the economy. We are anxious about health-related issues. We are anxious about matters of national and personal security. We are anxious about our political environment. Because such tensions and fears exist, the pharmaceutical industry is operating at record high profits. But has God left His people without any source of hope or help? While properly prescribed medicine may have a temporary benefit, the greatest medicine for spiritual, mental, and emotional health and well being comes from Scripture.
“My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings. Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thine heart. For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.” (Proverbs 4:20-22) The ESV translates the second part of verse 22 as, “and healing to all their flesh.”
Many of you Selah followers are anxious this morning. You are depressed. Discouragement and anxiety is “off the charts.” I am not suggesting that you stop taking medicine prescribed by your doctor. What I am asking you to do to relieve those anxious thoughts is this: Take a strong dose of God’s medicine. “Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.” (Psalm 46:10,11)
