Col 1.16,17 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

The writer to Hebrews says of Jesus: “Who being the brightness of [his] glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.” Our finite minds are simply unable to comprehend the vastness and immeasurable power of God. The sovereign Lord Jesus is not only a glorious Redeemer, He is also an omnipotent Creator and sustainer of all life. All human, animal and plant life depends on Him for life. All galaxies and stars in the universe depends on Him for its ability to consist and rotate in its orbit.

How foolish then to think of Him as simply a help in time of need. Of course He is that, because He states that to be true, blessed be His Name. But this morning my desire is to lift your soul above and beyond your “normal” thoughts of God. When you think about an attribute of God, like His love or kindness or goodness, “rethink” your normal thoughts of Him through the lens of His eternal being and power. When you add that dimension of His being to whatever attribute you read in Scripture, it leaves you speechless and in awe of Who He is to us. This is God’s universe, and we depend on Him for everything we need in life, whether we believe it or not. Pastor John Piper wrote: Everything that is not God depends totally on God. The entire universe is utterly secondary. It came into being by God and stays in being moment by moment on God’s decision to keep it in being.

Beloved, all that you need to be and the power to be that person must come from The Lord Jesus. He is giving us our next breath. He is keeping us by His mighty power. He is working in us right now both to will and do of His good pleasure. For all that pleases God is good. What a Wonderful Savior! What a Wonderful Maker! Praise His Holy Name, Christian, praise His Name!
