My exhortation today will be short and sweet. It is directed primarily to fathers, husbands and grandfathers; but it is for all men, young and old. The apostle Paul wrote in 1 Timothy 6:11,12, ‘But thou, O man of God, flee these things; and follow after righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, meekness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.’
There are two spirits that are shaping the lives of men today. One is the spirit of this world. The other is the Spirit of the Living God. There is no third spirit shaping our lives, brothers. Just like Jesus said that you cannot serve God and mammon, you cannot be a ‘man of the world’ and a man of God at the same time. They are exact opposites. Their values are different. Their agendas are different. Thus, every man here today, young or old, married or single must come to the place of deciding which spirit is going to shape their manhood. The fruit of this fallen world system is selfishness, and pride. The fruit of God’s Spirit is servanthood and love. The spirit of this world is antichrist. The Spirit of God will cause us to be more and more like Jesus Christ.
My dear brothers in Christ, we need to stand up for Jesus Christ and ‘man up’ in our homes. We need to be those loving leaders and examples of Jesus Christ towards our wife and children. May God grant us the grace and desire to go against the flow of this world and be a Kingdom man for the glory of Jesus Christ.
