Sometimes, but not always, sin can lead to sickness. In today’s passage, David believed that his sin was the cause of his sickness. David’s enemies were hoping that his sickness was terminal. Adding to his grief was that a once-close friend of David’s was among those hoping for his demise. David wisely pleaded for God’s mercy, because he knew that he was guilty of sinning against God and deserved judgment.
