Numbers 32:11-12 Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they have not wholly followed me: Save Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua the son of Nun: for they have wholly followed the Lord.
Acts 17:16 Now while Paul waited for them at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry.
There is no such thing as neutrality when it comes to spiritual things. You cannot be a half Christian; neither can you be a half follower of the world. You are either all in, or you are all out. Jesus told the lukewarm Laodiceans that they would be spit out of His mouth (Revelation 3:14-16). A person is either on the narrow path that leads to life, or they are on the broad path that leads to destruction and death.
It is unfortunate that we have created “paths” to accommodate unbelief and carnality. That is not to say that being in Christ is a battle-free, temptation-free zone. No, there is warfare and the constant need to lay aside things that beset us in our walk with Jesus. But the battles and disciplines exist because we have chosen to follow Christ and seek first His kingdom. Caleb and Joshua wholly followed The Lord. The city of Athens was wholly given to idolatry. The two cannot peacefully coexist within any human being. “You cannot serve God and mammon.” (Matthew 6:24)
There is a credit card commercial that ends by asking the question, “What’s in your wallet?” I ask you, my dear Selah family, what are you wholly given to, Jesus Christ or idolatry? The answer is either for me to live is Christ and His kingdom, or for me to live is me and the idolatrous kingdom of this world. Selah
