2 Pet 3.16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.
Whenever you find yourself wrestling with the truth of Scripture, know this; you are headed for destruction. Yes, there are truths in Scripture that we accept by faith because they surpass our finite understanding and ability to comprehend. But those are usually not the things that trip us up in our walk, or cause us to stray.
We usually get tripped up because we choose to ignore or explain away God’s truth. Our flesh detests the truth of God. Our flesh is a tyrant that demands it’s own way. Sadly, we tend to give in to our flesh, and as we read in Galatians 5, reap corruption.
When James and John wanted to call down fire from heaven to destroy a Samaritan village because they would not receive Jesus, Jesus rebuked them and said, “For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them” (Luke 9.56). Jesus did not come into the world to destroy us, but to deliver us. That is good news indeed!
In this day and age of “fake news”, let’s hear from The Masters Himself. “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly” (John 10.10).
Reader, listen to the testimony of the apostle John. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil” (1 John 3.8).
Jesus did not die for you and save you to make your life miserable, but meaningful. All you need to do to have a miserable life is ignore Jesus. A word to the wise, writer included, Stop wrestling with The Lord to your own destruction. Listen to Him. Trust Him. Abide in Him. Selah.
