Isaiah 12:1 And in that day thou shalt say, O LORD, I will praise thee:
Would you join me in declaring a New Year’s determination to draw waters from the wells of salvation every day? That is essentially what Isaiah is doing here in Isaiah 12. I am not suggesting that Isaiah wrote this declaration of praise unto his God on Rosh Hoshanna (the Jewish New Year); but what I am suggesting is that Isaiah, having been in the express present of God and having experienced the majesty and the power of His forgiveness (Isaiah 6), is here making a life time declaration of giving praise and thanksgiving unto Yahweh.
Isaiah declares that he will praise God, and that he is going to do it continually, no matter what (Isaiah 12:1). He is determined to praise Him continually because He is the God of is His salvation. Because He is the God of his salvation (deliverance, healing), he is determined to trust Him and not be afraid. He then declares that Jehovah is The One Who gives him strength and his song. Now turning to the people of God in verse 3, Isaiah declares, “Therefore” (because of Who Jehovah is and what He does for His people) “with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation.” Isaiah’s personal determination and declaration to the people of God is simply this: Seek His face, not His hand! Thank God for His daily benefits and blessings, but let’s not fall into the “Christian Consumer” trap of only seeking God’s hand instead of seeking His face.
Oh may the body of Christ rise up every morning and determine to seek His face, with the overflow of seeking His face, declaring among the people the doings or wonders of God and making mention that His Name is exalted. When the New Year’s ball drops, and the fireworks go off, and the crowd lifts their voices to only God knows who and what, may the body of Christ fall to our knees and declare, “Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the LORD JEHOVAH is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.” (verse 2)
“Cry out and shout,” oh church of The Living God: “for great is the Holy One of Israel in the midst of thee.” (verse 6) When we determine to seek first the face of God, His hand will supply whatever it is that we need to bring Him the glory and honor that He deserves. Selah
