Matthew 26.28 For this is my blood of the New Testament (covenant), which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
2 Corinthians 3.6 Who also hath made us able ministers of the New Testament; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.
The New Covenant that the blood of Jesus has purchased is a “now” Covenant. This Covenant is not only a promise of remission of all of our sin, it is also a covenant that promises the gift of the life giving Spirit.
This new covenant Jesus and Paul refer to is a now covenant. Everything that Jesus obtained in this new covenant belongs as much to us today as it belonged to those in the “early church.” I mention this beloved because there is a tendency to believe that the church today has been given the same forgiveness as the “early church”, but not the same giftings of The Spirit as were given to the “early church.”
By virtue of the perfect sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for our sin, His bodily resurrection from the dead and glorious ascension into heaven, the foretold era of The Spirit has arrived! All that the Scripture declares that The Spirit of God is and does, now dwells inside of those who are born again. The very same Spirit that wrought the resurrection of Jesus dwells in us beloved.
This Spirit filling does not make us “little Christ’s”, but He does dwell in us to empower us to be His living epistles and heavenly ambassadors in a fallen world. The church is the colony of heaven on earth with the God given assignment to preach and live out the “now covenant” of Jesus Christ for the glory and honor of The Father with the all of the power and giftings of The Spirit that were given to the “early church.” Selah
