John 8.42-44 If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word. Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Many people today claim that God is their father. That same claim was made when Jesus was on earth. How does one know that The Living God is their father? Jesus gives us the answer. It may not be the answer that we like, but it is the one and only answer. The person that loves The Father is the person that loves Jesus Christ. When you love someone, you will show that love for them by doing things that please them. You will speak to others about that person that you love. In other words, your love for a person cannot be hidden or silent. When a person is born of God, he or she will love Jesus Christ. The Jesus of Scripture. They will seek to please Him in all that they do. They will speak often of Him. Their love for Him will not and cannot be a “private thing.” A city set on a hill cannot be hid. You can tell a tree by its fruit.
On the other hand, the person who claims to love The Father but is living after the lusts of the flesh and has no testimony of Christ in their life is a flat out fraud. The apostle John wrote, Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. To commit here means to practice or a habit of living. In other words, a person who has no real testimony of Jesus Christ living in them will be living after the lusts of the flesh, which means that their spiritual father is not The Almighty but the devil.
A person that has God for the Father will love Jesus and it will show. They cannot be hidden or silent about their love for Him. Sinless perfection is not the criteria for sonship, for that claim belongs to Jesus alone. Faith in Who Jesus is and what He has done to provide forgiveness of sin will produces a newness of life that is the proof of the Fatherhood of God. Who is your father?
