1 Timothy 1:5 Now the end of the commandment is charity out of a pure heart, and of a good conscience, and of faith unfeigned.
Keeping a God-ward focus this day and age is so critical in the Christian life. That is why we must never grow weary of hearing the gospel. “(H)ow much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?” (Hebrews 9:14) Because I am a flawed and imperfect man, I need to be reminded of the redemptive blood of Jesus that has freed me to serve Him. We do not serve The Lord out of guilt, but out of love. And as we believe and walk in the truth of Christ’s atoning sacrifice for our sins, our conscience towards Him and others is strengthened and our motivation is one of pure love. No artificial substances. No fleshly additives. No need for a “pat on the back.” All that is needed today to have a good conscience is the awareness of an audience of One.
