Romans 4:4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt.

If you are attempting to work your way into God’s favor, then you are viewing salvation as something that you earn or deserve. Salvation is not a reward; it is a gift. “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 6:23) When it comes to serving God, never think that God is indebted to you because of something that you do or give to Him. Let me explain.

If you pray because you think that God will then owe you something in return, forget it. Remember, we are praying to The King of Kings, not Burger King, and the purpose of prayer is not to have it our own way.

If you give to The Lord’s work here thinking that God is now obligated to give you a financial blessing in return, forget it.

If you serve in the children’s church or any other area because you are sure that God is now indebted to give you a bigger crown in heaven, forget it. You’re missing what walking with Christ is all about.

We pray because by the grace of God we love Him and love to have fellowship with Him. We give because God by His grace has been so good to us and gives us the opportunity to further His gospel and bless others. We serve in the children’s church or any other ministry because the grace of Christ has called us and equipped us to do so.

True Christianity is all about the grace of God. We do not pray, study, give, share, and worship to try to earn God’s blessing, but because God in His grace has been so good to us!
