The Weapon of Thanksgiving and Praise
Psalm 107:21, 22 Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men! And let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works with rejoicing.
Life can be gloomy and downright depressing at times. When our bodies are racked with pain. When our souls are drained because of tears shed for wayward children. When the nightly news is one sad story after another. It is not long before you find yourself on the corner of Bummer Avenue and Depression Park! But here is a biblical principle that enables you to live above the gloom and doom. The weapons of thanksgiving and praise. Four times in Psalm 107 the Spirit of God declares, “Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!” (verses 8,15,21,31)
Do that right now. Praise The Lord for His goodness and for His wonderful work of redemption in your life. Praise Him through the sorrow and pain, for Jesus is worthy to be praised. Thanking and praising The Lord is not a denial of your circumstances; they are expressions of faith that are proclaiming Who Jesus is! In the midst of a groaning creation, birds sing their hearts out. The sun blazes its bright beams of light. “O LORD, thou [art] my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful [things; thy] counsels of old [are] faithfulness [and] truth.” (Isaiah 25:1) Praise Him, saints; praise Him!!
Praise lifts the heart and strengthens the soul. Even in the midst of dark time. Just like Paul in the jail cell, when he and Silas sat singing songs of praise.
