Song of Solomon 1:3 Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee.
An ointment contains curative qualities. It soothes. It brings relief. Such is The Name of Jesus. The Hebrew is Yeshua, or, Jehovah brings salvation. That is what Jesus does. He saves. He delivers. He is The One Who makes us whole. One of the most profitable studies is finding the names used to describe our Lord. Every single name is a treasure chest of great value and worthy of much meditation. The names of Jesus are meant to be applied to every area of our lives. In His Name, there is no impossibility, no lack of power, no tunnel so dark that He cannot lighten. Oh how I love The Name of Jesus! He is still moved with compassion when He looks at the multitudes, wallowing in sin and suffering like sheep without a shepherd.
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” (Psalm 23:1,2) As your day unfolds, ponder the reality of Jesus being your shepherd. He will go before you every step of the way today. He won’t throw you to the wolves; He protects you from them. Like a Good Shepherd, He delivers you from the lion and the bear. He is a protective shepherd. A loving and caring shepherd. A shepherd who loves you enough to change your direction when you are heading the wrong way. He will love you enough to chasten you when you insist on walking in harmful, sinful ways. Such a Wonderful Shepherd! Truly, His Name is as ointment for our souls.
My shepherd found me when I was lost. He reigns forevermore. Amen.
