Hebrews 3.13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
The most wicked, defiling entity in the universe is sin. Sin kills, steals and destroys. Sin deceives and cheats. Sin is a thing that should have the word DANGER written all over it. But, because we are fallen souls living in a fallen world where the devil rules, sin is now called, fun. Entertainment. What God calls bitterness, sin calls sweet. What God calls poison, sin calls pleasure. Thus, we are exhorted to exhort one another daily. Why? Lest writer or reader alike be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
The best way to avoid the trap of sins deceitfulness is to keep your distance from it. Sin always covers its poison with the bait of pleasure. But apart from God’s Word, the true nature of sin is hidden. Sin promises to fulfill you, but it ends up fooling you. Oh it gives you that fleshly rush for a moment, but if given unto repeatedly, it brings you into bondage for life. Of whom a man is overcome, of the same he is held in bondage. Though sin entered into the world through man, sin is the crown prince of the world. It’s pleasures are immediate, but it’s consequences are tormenting. Our passage this morning reminds us that God’s children must remain vigilant in this battle against sin.
Dear ones, never underestimate the deceitful power of sin. It will rob you of your peace and destroy your reputation. Above all, sin is a reproach to the Name of Christ. Prefer the treasure of Christ and the joy of holiness over the false glamor of sin beloved. Remember, sin usually offers you and I a legitimate pleasure of God in an illegitimate way. Don’t take the bait. Trust God for the power to resist and His goodness to meet that need according to His riches in glory through Jesus Christ.
