“For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:18
Although we live in the dimension of time, it is important for us to think beyond the hands on the clock and the dates on the calendars. As disciples of Jesus Christ, we now have everlasting life. That is more than an endless quantity of life; it is a quality of life outside of this present evil world. We have everlasting life because the everlasting Jesus dwells in our hearts. His ways in our lives are for everlasting purposes. He alone speaks the words of eternal life into our lives.
The Bible teaches us to look beyond the temporal to the eternal. The Holy Spirit working in us is thinking in terms of everlasting value (2 Cor 3:18). This new way of living allows us to be true servants of God (Rom 6:22). This new way of life can see eternal worth in temporary, earthly afflictions.
Best of all is that eternal life is a personal relationship with the true and living God and Jesus Christ (John 17:3). May we purpose to live in the light of eternity!
