1 Chronicles 16.10,11 Glory ye in his holy name: let the heart of them rejoice that seek the Lord. Seek the Lord and his strength, seek his face continually.
Proverbs tells us that a merry heart does good like medicine. God’s “pharmacy” is the best medicine for man. His medicine is good for the soul. David wrote this song when the ark of the covenant was brought back to its rightful place. It was a time of great celebration and rejoicing. God’s people were singing and dancing and rejoicing before The Lord. Glorious scene!
Our verses this morning contain a snippet of this song, but oh how wonderful is it’s content. Glory in His Name. Seek The Lord and His strength continually. And what will be the outcome of this act of worshipful pursuit of God? Your heart shall rejoice. Seeking God, be it in prayer, singing or meditating on His Word will be a source of joy in your heart. Joy, not the fleeting and elusive “feeling” of happiness. The fruit of The Spirit is joy. A joy that is not of this world. A joy that is rooted in the Holy Name of God. As we glory in His Name, meaning that we meditate on the character and loftiness of our God, our hearts will “discover” a joy that cannot be found elsewhere. In a world that is driven by busyness and trivial pursuits, we have the privilege in Christ to dwell in fellowship with The Father throughout the day.
So dear ones, let’s take this medicine of God in large doses today. Wherever you go, whatever you do, seek God. Think about His Name. Glory in His presence. Seek His strength. Your soul will be nourished and your heart will rejoice. This prescription has no expiration date and has been paid in full. Glory to God!
