When God told Jacob to go to Bethel to seek Him, the first thing that we read in Scripture is Jacob commanding his household to put away all strange gods, be clean and change your garments. In other words, if God is to be sought effectively, we must repent of any and all things that occupy that place in our hearts that belongs to God alone.
The Psalmist asked God to “Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” James tells us “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Today is a new day, and God’s mercies are new every morning.”
Precious child of God, seek The Lord today with an open and honest heart. Allow God’s Spirit to lead you in prayer and confession of sin. Repentance is a part of the ongoing process of sanctification. He is faithful to cleanse you of all unrighteousness. Don’t allow your sin and failure to cause you to run from Jesus, run to Him boldly. Gen 35.1,2; Psa 139.23,24; James 4.8; Heb 4.14-16
