If there is one thing that every child of God must understand, it’s the purpose of God in saving us. Without this knowledge of, ‘Why did Jesus need to die for me?’ and ‘How is that truth to affect my day to day life?’, one’s faith becomes foggy, uncertain. This lack of the heart knowledge of God’s purpose for your life can be destructive. The purpose for your redemption is that you might now bring glory and honor to the name of Jesus. Therefore, there is purpose for your job, trials, and various temptations (or tests) as they provide character-shaping opportunities to honor the Lord.
The verb ‘purpose’ reveals a determination or resolution to do the will of God in spite of any opposition. For example, Daniel purposed in his heart not to defile himself with the things of Babylon. This undoubtedly reflected a conscious decision and commitment to follow the Lord wholeheartedly, which left no room to pursue other things. In Acts 11:23, Barnabas exhorted the saints of Antioch to follow the Lord ‘with purpose of heart’.
We need to realize that God purposes everything in our lives. There are no coincidences or accidents. Our purpose is to cling to His purpose in everything. Rather than trying to wiggle out of God’s purposes, we need to submit to them, trusting that He is working ‘all things together for good’. The life of Paul the Apostle encourages us even today as we read of the grace and strength of God that flowed through him. One reason for this was because his faith in Jesus had purpose.
Remember, saints, that Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, not you! Always seek God’s purpose in your life, and you are sure to sense God’s presence.
