Romans 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Colossians 3:5 Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
There was a very popular video game years ago called Mortal Combat. I never played it, but I understand it was for its time extremely graphic and violent. Our video game society has become desensitized to reality and real danger. Lurking in every human being is an entity called the flesh. It is wicked. It is demanding. And it kills, steals and destroys lives, marriages, churches and nations. But the enemy is often promoted as entertainment. It is prevalent on television and in popular movies. It has even taken over many of our commercials. Covetousness, or the desire for more or for what is forbidden, is flaunted. Sensuality sells cars, soap, vitamins. Those who live after the flesh die; death meaning separation from God, separation from reality.
Dear ones, those who are in Christ have been quickened, or made alive again. We can tap into the Person and power of The Holy Spirit and mortify, or put to death these fleshly lusts that war against our souls. We are engaged in this mortal combat until this old body of sin is destroyed. When you through The Spirit mortify those deeds of the body, you experience life as God intended it to be lived. Don’t play games with your fleshly lusts. Abide in Christ. Keep yourself in the love of God. Live abundantly today.
