Colossians 2:6 As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, [so] walk ye in him:
The Colossians church was being assaulted by many false doctrines concerning the Person of Jesus Christ and His gospel they we’re being told that faith in Jesus Christ’s sacrifice on the cross was not enough to take away their sin. Some insisted that they also needed to keep holy days. Others insisted that they blend the faith in Christ with philosophical ideas. Others insisted that they needed to begin living an ascetic kind of a lifestyle, forbidding them to even engage in lawful, marital sexual relationships.
Beloved, the devil is always attempting to undermine the true gospel of Jesus Christ with all kinds of legalistic or philosophical additions. Legalism will never accept the words of Jesus, “It is finished.” My exhortation to you this morning is to read and meditate upon our devotional passage again. We received Christ by grace, through faith. Having begun in The Spirit, shall we now be made perfect by doing something else? Can we possibly do anything that could add to the finished work of Christ? Keep walking with Jesus today the same way you received Him as Lord. Totally needing His grace. Totally needing His power and strength. Totally trusting His perfect sacrifice for all of your sin. Remember that our salvation is the gift of God, Who has placed us in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption. Having been brought to Christ by The Spirit of God, we are now called to be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children; And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savor. Following Jesus means to walk by faith in Him. Following Jesus means to walk in His love.
We received Jesus knowing that there was no way that we could even attain salvation by our own good works. We continue to follow Jesus the same way we received Him as Lord, knowing that nothing we do after receiving Him can save us. Weary and discouraged child of God, look into the face of Christ this morning. Behold again His eternal grace and love for you. And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, [do] all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him. Join Paul in his affirmation, I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me. Keep walking, by keeping your eyes on Jesus.
